OVERVIEW

We have enlisted faith-filled qualified teachers from across the country

The program we offer does not demand any papers or exams. The course offerings are challenging and meant to build the skills needed to be an effective spiritual director. The method of direction we teach is referred to as the Contemplative-Evocative approach. Our program is centered on prayer and personal growth. Because of this, extended prayer time is included in each two-week training session. Group sharing is also a daily part of the schedule because the ability to share what the Lord is doing with us in our prayer time is essential to assisting others in sharing their journey with their director.

The Alleluia Community considers the School of Spiritual Direction as an opportunity for hospitality and provides meals, housing and intercessory prayer for all participants in the school. We are committed to support others in their walk into the heart of the Savior. Our hope is that the Spiritual Direction School will extend the help offered to those who seek Him.

WHAT IS SPIRITUAL DIRECTION?

The art of spiritual direction is an ancient Christian tradition

Ananias gave direction to Paul in his hour of darkness, and the desert fathers attracted many followers who sought to deepen their spiritual walk. Fast forward 2000 years to today. There is a swell of renewed interest in Spiritual Direction and a burgeoning need in Protestant, Evangelical, Non-Denominational, and Catholic churches for spiritual directors. This gift of walking deeper into the heart of Jesus is a gift for the whole Body of Christ. We offer ministers, priests and lay people of all Christian traditions the skills to walk with others on their journey.

Our school is endorsed by the Roman Catholic bishop of the Savannah diocese. (To see his letter of recommendation Click Here)

MEET THE FOUNDERS:
Mike and Beverly Firmin

Our two co-founders, Mike and Beverly Firmin, received their certification in spiritual direction from the Cenacle School of Spirituality in Clearwater, Florida. The Alleluia Community’s leaders decided to build upon this training by establishing a new school of spiritual direction sponsored by the Alleluia Community in Augusta, Georgia. The Community wants to offer this training in spiritual direction to the wider body of Christ in order to meet the need for guidance and discernment that many Christians desire. Oftentimes this resource is lacking in our churches because of our overworked pastors. This critical time in our society demands a deepening spiritual walk for all Christians, and strength for their journey of faith is vitally needed. Spiritual direction gives this help.

EXPERIENCE A CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY

We’re an outreach of the Alleluia Christian Community in Augusta, Georgia.

The Alleluia Community was founded in 1973 in Augusta, Georgia when 12 members of a local prayer group, desiring mutual support and accountability in living Christian family life, agreed to a written covenant that begins with the words, “Jesus is our Lord!” God spoke a command to “Be a People” and this Vision guides the Community to this day. The Community’s greatest work is educating our children in The Alleluia Community School (K-12), passing on Faith to our next generation. Now approximately 600 members strong, the Community members have made a commitment to have homes in close proximity to one another. Faith Village is the largest of the Community’s clusters of homes. Jesus has also commanded us to be “ecumenical” or interdenominational, and so our members are from different church traditions, as a sign of unity that will someday come again to the Church.

Students in the Alleluia School of Spiritual Direction have a chance to experience up close and first-hand the love of God permeating the life of Christian community as the members serve them meals, house in their own homes those students from out-of-town, act as facilitators in small groups and give them transportation to and from their lodgings to the campus of the School.
